Jaw-muscle assessment in Business Bay

Masseter Botox in Dubai for jaw contour and muscle tension

A masseter consultation can explore two different goals: softening the appearance of a strong lower face and assessing jaw-muscle overactivity linked with clenching or grinding.

Two possible pathwaysJaw contour and clenching-related concerns require the same careful muscle assessment—but not always the same plan.
Masseter assessment

What the clinician needs to separate

Muscle-led jaw width, dental symptoms, and structural facial shape can overlap but do not have identical treatment options.

Swipe through the assessment
01

Muscle size

The masseter is palpated at rest and during clenching to compare bulk and strength.

02

Jaw function

Grinding, clenching, bite symptoms, pain, and previous dental care are discussed.

03

Lower-face balance

Bone structure, soft tissue, asymmetry, and the change you want are considered separately.

At a glance

The masseter affects both chewing strength and lower-face shape

The masseter is a powerful chewing muscle at the angle of the jaw. A clinician assesses muscle size, strength, symmetry, clenching history, dental context, and facial proportions before discussing treatment.

Treatment is planned within the assessed masseter area and around your individual anatomy.

01

Assessment required

Jaw-muscle activity, facial anatomy, symptoms, and medical or dental context are reviewed.

02

Usually 30–45 minutes

The visit includes clench assessment, planning, and the agreed procedure where suitable.

03

Muscle change is gradual

Functional and contour changes may develop over several weeks rather than immediately.

04

Effects vary by muscle strength

Duration and degree of response depend on anatomy, product, dose, and individual use.

05

Not a cure for every jaw problem

A dental, medical, or physiotherapy pathway may still be appropriate.

Botulinum-toxin products have different units and are not interchangeable. Mahan uses Nabota, BOTOX by Allergan, and Dysport; your clinician selects the product and plan after assessment.

Two treatment goals

Jaw contour and jaw tension need separate conversations

A prominent lower face may reflect muscle size, bone structure, soft tissue, or several factors. Grinding and jaw discomfort may also require dental or medical assessment rather than botulinum toxin alone.

Often discussed for

  • A strong or enlarged masseter affecting lower-face contour
  • Jaw clenching or grinding that needs clinical discussion
  • Comparing muscle-led width with structural jaw shape
  • An individual plan for asymmetry or muscle strength

Needs another or additional assessment

  • Untreated dental disease or an undiagnosed jaw problem
  • Changing bone structure with muscle treatment
  • A guaranteed V-shaped face
  • Replacing a mouthguard or dental plan without professional advice

Your consultation journey

Before, during and after your visit

The consultation, treatment plan, and aftercare are adjusted to the area being assessed and your medical context.

  1. 01

Assess the jaw while resting and clenching

The clinician compares muscle activity, lower-face shape, symmetry, symptoms, and relevant dental or medical history.

  2. 02

    Choose the correct pathway

The discussion separates aesthetic contour goals from functional symptoms and explains when another professional assessment may be needed.

  3. 03

    Review gradual change

If treatment is suitable, you receive aftercare and guidance about expected timing, chewing changes, and follow-up.

Suitability & safety

Important details to share with your clinician

Botulinum toxin is a prescription treatment and is not suitable for everyone. Your clinician reviews relevant health information, medicines, previous treatment, and area-specific risks.

  • Discuss swallowing or chewing problems, facial weakness, neuromuscular conditions, dental or jaw-joint symptoms, medicines, pregnancy or breastfeeding, infection, and previous treatment.
  • Possible effects include tenderness, bruising, asymmetry, temporary chewing weakness, smile change, or unwanted weakness in nearby muscles.
  • Jaw pain, locking, significant clicking, dental damage, or persistent headaches may need additional dental or medical assessment.

Urgent: Seek urgent medical attention for difficulty swallowing, speaking, or breathing, or significant weakness after treatment.

This page provides general information and does not replace an individual medical consultation.

Questions, answered

Masseter Botox FAQs

Useful general information first; a clinician can then make it specific to you.

Is masseter Botox for jaw slimming or bruxism?

It can be discussed through either an aesthetic contour pathway or a functional clenching and grinding pathway. The assessment and goals should be clearly separated before treatment.

Will it treat every cause of jaw pain?

No. Jaw pain can have dental, joint, muscular, neurological, or other causes. The clinician may recommend another assessment before deciding whether botulinum toxin is appropriate.

When might jaw contour change?

Muscle activity may change before visible contour. Aesthetic change generally develops gradually over several weeks and varies with the starting muscle size.

Can it affect chewing?

Temporary chewing weakness or fatigue is a recognised area-specific possibility. The clinician discusses this risk and plans treatment around muscle function.

Do I still need my dental mouthguard?

Do not stop a prescribed dental appliance or treatment plan without advice from the professional managing it. Botulinum toxin does not automatically replace dental care.

How do I arrange a consultation?

Use the form, call, or message us on WhatsApp. Mention whether your main concern is contour, clenching, grinding, discomfort, or a combination.
